The Only Authorized and Best Import Auto Shops in the Triad

Posted by Carmine's

I get asked this question a lot. Which shops are the best in the area? Even though we have a shuttle service that goes pretty much anywhere you want so distance is not an issue, there are times where we need to recommend a good shop to a customer or potential new customer due to time, scheduling, or simply because we do not offer a service on a particular year vehicle for some reason.

We have no affiliation nor do we endorse some of the shops listed below, but Carmine has a list of the recommended ones in our area based on his 21 years in the Triad and their known credentials. The benefits we offer such as our 4 year warranty, factory equipment, master technicians, proprietary systems and processes, digital shop experience, shuttle service, loaner cars, coffee bar, and other free perks and amenities may or may not be offered by the shops listed below, but these are known quality shops at this time. While we would love to have everyone's business, sometimes things can get backed up, or you need an alternative. It is always best to choose a Bosch Authorized Service Center or an ATI Certified Shop. If you don't, please be careful. We do not have a full confirmed list of the shops listed below affiliations or certifications. They may and probably have more than listed. So here it is in alphabetical order:

THE "SAFE TO GO TO" IMPORT SHOP LIST - If they are not on the list, beware. There are many shops out there that claim to be specialists and even fake being affiliated with the Bosch network or other good automotive networks. You get what you pay for. Cheap and Expensive don't matter. Quality and Value matter. Most of the time, you get what you pay for when you deal with someone reputable. Well, you hope to anyway. Everyone tries their best.

IMS Retrofit vs IMS Solution

Should I Apply The "IMS Retrofit" Or The IMS Solution To My Engine?

One thing is for sure, if you have an engine with the factory single row IMS bearing, the only bad decision that you can make is not replacing the IMS bearing!

Choosing the IMS Retrofit or the IMS Solution isn't a difficult decision. The choice basically comes down to the following factors:

A- Cost.
B- How much you love the car and how long you wish to keep it.

Its pretty simple to make the best decision in regard to choosing which form of IMS retrofit that you choose if you use the above factors as a guideline. With the IMS Retrofit being rated at 6 years/75,000 miles of service for the Classic Dual Row and Single Row Pro IMS bearings and requiring proactive replacement at that mileage point, people who want to keep their cars forever have been looking for an absolute solution to the IMS Bearing failure issues. If you want to keep the car forever then the IMS Solution provides a lifetime of service, because the wear components are removed. Using the Classic Single Row IMS & RND Roller bearing kits will give you a 4 yr/50,000 mile service interval.

The IMS Solution makes the most sense when rebuilding your engine but can also be installed instead of a single row pro.

BMW Dealership vs. BMW Independent Shop for Auto Service

Posted by Carmine's

When it comes time to repair or tune-up your BWM, do you choose a dealership or an independent shop for your BMW service?

Most consumers base this decision on factors such as price, quality of service, convenience, and overall satisfaction. A survey conducted by the Consumer Reports National Research Center found that customers are typically more satisfied when they use an independent shop for repairs.

The highest-ranking concern for customers is the price of their service. Independent shops use manufacturer replacement parts, same as the dealerships. The difference is independent shops often get BMW parts at a savings of 20% or more and that means savings for the customer. Independent shops also have the flexibility to offer alternative or rebuilt parts that perform equally. Dealerships operate like profit centers which could spell trouble for the consumer. In most cases, they have higher hourly rates and more expensive repair bills.

When a customer walks into an independent repair shop, they are greeted by a team that personally cares. Personal relationships are built and fostered through local shops because customers get to know who is working on their car and technicians care about the customer's experience. Everyone benefits from building these personal relationships. The shop won't try to up-sell customers for fear of losing trust and repeat business. Personal relationships mean more than a meeting with a sales person. Customers should build that relationship during regular services so it will benefit them when it's time for a big repair!

High Quality BMW Service

High quality technicians are a trademark of independent repair shops. They can't afford to make mistakes or use incompetent technicians. These teams are certified to work on a variety of car brands as opposed to a dealership's mechanics only working on a BMW. Dealerships are often where technicians get their start, but independent shops are run by staff with more experience and knowledge. If you notice, the turnover rate at a service desk in a dealership is often higher than of an auto mechanic shop. Quality people last in quality environments.

At Carmine's Import Service, our master technicians have a passion for BMWs and the certifications to back it up. We have more specialized knowledge and technology for BMWs than any other shop in a 60-mile radius. We care about our clients' satisfaction and providing high-quality work at a fair value. Satisfaction is always 100% guaranteed. You can read more about our BMW service and repair expertise on our website.

So whatever your BMW performance needs, whether it be tires, brakes, oil-change, exhaust, suspension, software, stereo, or more, we care about each car that comes through our shop. We service customers with a smile and have the top team for BMW service and BMW repair in Winston Salem, High Point, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Lewisville, Clemmons, Walkertown, and beyond. Carmine's Import Service features Euro auto repair and import auto repair too! We match the dealerships' services in a more convenient and personal environment. Do we still service classic import cars? Of course we do. As a matter of fact Carmine started his career in this industry working with vintage Porsche 911 cars and BMW 2002 and BMW 3.0 CS coupes. He does not like to advertise it but he also has some vintage British car experience too. Never mind the older Alfa and Fiat experience he keeps quiet about. When it comes to older Jaguars he would probably steer you elsewhere as he prefers newer flavor Jaguars. Foreign Accents would be your choice for old (pre 1990) Jaguars. His classic car strengths are with BMW, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz. Whether it is just a yearly service or using special tooling to synchronize the fuel system give us a call to help you.

BMW Service Experience Made Easy

Don't get sucked into the dealership bait and switch prices and mentality or the value they tell you they offer you. It is a pure 1980s bait and switch program designed to get you in the door, charge you a bunch of money and not do anything. Have you ever felt like that at a shop? You give the shop $900 or whatever and all they did was an oil change. You are standing there thinking what! Give us a call or text us and we will help you.

Customers fall into these categories. Leased or purchased new and just need owners manual maintenance. No problem we can do that. Guess what? BMW no longer offers you 4 years worth of coverage through your warranty on the FREE maintenance. They pulled it. No more wiper blades either. Not more brake rotors. They turn them. They don't replace unless it is mandatory. In other words they don't care. It is ALL about profit. Soon they will pull the 36k maintenance too which is merely nothing but 2-3 oil services and a filter.

BMW Service Tips

Then there is the customer who purchases the car to drive from point A to point B and only changes oil and rotates tires and keeps the car clean but doesn't care if it blows up. We can help you too. Then there is the customer who purchases the BMW as an investment and wants to care for the car for 7-10 years and put 250k miles on it. Perfect. That is where we come in 100%. There is good news here. The newer cars last much longer when cared for and drive like they are new with 150k miles on them. We actually have proof. We own a 2014 528 F Chassis which is the new body that has 120,000 miles and it drives like it did off the showroom floor with some minor wear and tear and its a loaner car! Imagine the abuse it gets and neglect. Hey we are to blame too. Sometimes our own stuff gets overlooked because it is loaned out. But we keep up with the oil service, spark plug service, antifreeze coolant service, differential service, brake fluid service, induction service, and even the air conditioning service.

Yes we service the air conditioning system before it fails yearly so it won't fail and you get the peace of mind being protected by the BG lifetime protection plan. Preventive maintenance like air filters, cabin filters, seat filters, are very important these days. Oil and filter services should be performed every 5,000 miles. We even offer digital health reports to help you manage your vehicle health status and remind you automatically when something is due. If you own a BMW this is the shop it needs to be at. Carmine has been driving BMWs for 25 years! He has owned just about every series they make. We know a thing or two.

Absolute Best Service for Your Mercedes-Benz

Posted by Carmine's

The Importance of Service and Repair

You finally bought your dream car. Now what? Keep your Mercedes-Benz in its absolute best condition by performing scheduled preventive maintenance services A and B as recommended by the manufacturer. The Mercedes-Benz auto line is known for performance, style, and longevity. Even so, as an owner, you have to do your part. At Carmine's Import Service in Kernersville, North Carolina, we can help you do just that. Whether it's time for Service A, Service B, or repairs, our ASE-certified technicians know just what your vehicle needs. Make an appointment today to see why we're recognized as a Blue Seal of Excellence shop.

Service A

After you've driven your Mercedes-Benz a year or 10,000 miles (whichever comes first), you'll need to bring it in for Service A. This visit covers the basic preventive maintenance points. For instance, your technician will change the oil and filter using synthetic engine oil. Also, he/she will check and adjust (if needed) the tire air pressure, check all fluid levels (power steering, coolant, brake, windshield wiper) (topping them off as necessary), and inspect the brakes. Before the service visit concludes, your technician will reset the maintenance counter. This specific schedule and associated service points apply to 2009 and newer models driven under normal conditions. If you have an older model, check your owner's manual for information about service intervals. Talk to our staff if you drive under unusual circumstances.

Service B

Once you reach the 20,000-mile threshold, your Mercedes-Benz will need Service B. Like the Service A checklist, this visit includes oil and filter change with synthetic motor oil, checking and topping of all fluids, and tire air pressure check (reinflating the tires as necessary). Furthermore, the brake fluid is changed as is the cabin dust/combination filter prior to resetting the maintenance counter. The year model rule regarding recommended service described above applies to Service B, too.

The Absolute Best Local Service and Repair Shop

As much as you love your Mercedes-Benz, shouldn't you protect its value and keep it running well as long as possible? You can make that task easy by choosing the absolute best local shop for Mercedes-Benz service and repair. In the Triad area, that's Carmine's Import Service. Nobody knows your German import vehicle better than our staff. We back our work with a generous 3 year/36,000-mile warranty on most parts and labor. Also, you may be eligible for a limited 4 year/50,000 warranty. Just ask us to see if you qualify. Therefore, there's no need to make the drive to the dealership in a larger town. What's more, we're committed to customer service, operating since opening in 2008 from our values of honesty, quality, and transparency.

The Cost of Cheap Tesla Owners

Posted by Carmine's

Cheap Tesla Owners will lead to a Cheap Tesla Experience.

Model S, 3, X, Y

Tesla's require maintenance just as anything else does in this world. The lack of wheel alignments will lead to tire replacement as early as 10,000 miles!. As a matter of fact, we suggest having your brand new Tesla alignment checked when you take delivery of it. Will you have to pay for it? Of course. Don't want to take our advice? Fine. Just purchase more tires. Make sure you purchase good tires when you are shopping. You get what you pay for. Does it have to have foam inside the tire? No, it does not. What happens without the foam? The interior decibel noise will be marginally higher. You probably will not even notice it. If you can get the foam, then get it. But with current 2022 supply issues that can be an issue. The other maintenance items recommend can be found on our website such as routine a/c checkups, cabin air filters, brake fluid flushes, tire rotations, software updates (these happen over the air aka OTA), front and rear differential oil and filter services (every 30k miles), wiper blades, and making sure the cameras are clean and free of debris and calibrated (calibration can be performed via the Service Menu). Since the brake system does not get used much due to really great regenerative braking, the brake calipers on most Tesla's need to be cleaned and lubricated each year depending on the climate you live in and driving habits. For most that will be every two years and mainly on Model S & X cars.

The end result in a 'Cheap Tesla Owner' is a Tesla that is worth significantly less than one that is properly maintained. Sound familiar? Yes, just like with everything else you own or care for in life. Take care of it.

How Porsches are Identified

Posted by Carmine's

It's a Porsche!

You may hear a lot of chatter among enthusiasts and owners about exactly what a particular Porsche is called. We're glad to explain a little bit about coding and naming to you, but don't sweat the small details. After all, it's a Porsche! It's your dream car! To keep that beloved vehicle in prime condition, rely on Carmine's Import Service in Kernersville, North Carolina, for all your preventive maintenance services and repairs. Our ASE-certified technicians are familiar with your import, so you can actually save time, money, and aggravation by bringing your auto to us. We'll fix it right the first time. This provides you with an advantage - instead of hoping for the best at a shop that seldom sees a car like yours, yet it eliminates the need to drive to a dealership.

Simply Complex

Although the identification system can lead to long and complex sounding names (which can be confusing to some drivers), it feels simple to enthusiasts who understand the coding and indeed is made easier with the use of simplified, shortened designations. Throughout its history, the company has assigned a number to each new project. Variants of those models were codified according to additional identifying characteristics such as engine type. Some letters correspond to particular years, and nicknames were given to some (though not all models). To further complicate matters, just when the manufacturer appeared to have the numbering system perfected, another automaker complained that they already owned the rights to certain numbers with a "0" as the middle digit. This prompted Porsche to change some of its numbering to feature a "1" as the center digit. Thus, what would have been the 901 was quickly changed to 911. Other examples of numerical and naming complexities include one model of the 356 being well known as a "Dame" (or Lady), another being dubbed "Sau" (Pig), and the extended model designations such as the 356 A 1500 GS Carrera being called by the shortened moniker Carrera. So here's the real "the long and short of it." You love your Porsche. If you're comfortable with the full-blown name, great! If not, call it by the shortened nickname and enjoy the ride!

Call Us Your Local Shop for Service and Repair

No matter what you call your Porsche, there's no question that you should call Carmine's Import Service your local shop for Porsche service and repair. We'll take great care of your car and you. We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service. We back our work with a 3 year/36,000-mile warranty on most parts and labor, and you may qualify for a longer warranty.

The Best Shops in the Triad

Choosing a European auto repair shop can be tricky. Make sure you choose wisely. There are a lot of newbies out there with little to no experience pretending to know something about running a business and an automotive repair facility. Some will get fooled and take a chance by their low bait pricing only to find out the company is no longer the year after and the warranty, if any, goes with it. Below is a list of shops we would recommend if you are not close enough to visit Carmine's Import Service?. These shops have been around for quite some time now and offer very similar services to what we have and have a reputation of being trustworthy too. Please use them at your own risk. Teslas Need Oil Changes Too!

Posted by Carmine's

Yes, just about all Tesla's have about 2 quarts in each differential and an oil filter too. If you did not know that, now you do. Pretty simple service but if you plan to put 100k miles on the car you may want to consider this every 30k miles and if you end up tracking/racing your Tesla you may want to do this more frequently as there is not much oil in those differentials compared to the heat that is created. We also offer special oil filters with oil coolers attached. Click here to see the selection available at our store.

How to Keep Your Mercedes an Engineering Marvel

Posted by Carmine's

Important Maintenance Advice by the Experts at Carmine's Import Service

Your Mercedes is a modern marvel, a feat of German mechanical genius, and your pride and joy. At Kernersville, North Carolina's Carmine Import Service, we have the expertise to keep your Mercedes running at high performance levels, year after year, and we're sharing some of our best Mercedes auto repair practices here.

While we're under the hood, let's also talk about your transmission. The engine is the heart of your Mercedes vehicle, and its maintenance is paramount to peak driving and handling performance. Mercedes' transmission systems require flushing every 50,000 miles while also attending to the filter simultaneously. This is to prevent costly repairs down the road, including having to replace your entire transmission, which can otherwise begin to perform at less than peak levels after 70,000 to 90,000 miles of use. We recommend your Mercedes engine be serviced by one of our expert service technicians at least twice a year to ensure its health and longevity.

Remaining under the hood and also essential to your Mercedes' driving and handling are the various fluids required to run your vehicle, including regular oil changes, power steering fluid, and your engine's coolant system. Without regular refilling and replacing of these essential fluids, you are courting disaster, inviting a breakdown on the side of the road. Our certified mechanics recommend oil changes every two months or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first; coolant flushes and a cooling system service regularly, and power steering checks, including a flush of your vehicle's power steering fluid every 50,000 miles.

Finally, and equally essential to performance, we discuss regular service to your Mercedes' brakes and tires. Our expert service people recommend your brake fluid be replaced every two to three years, but we also recommend more frequent brake services, that include monitoring and cleaning your brake cushions to ensure your Mercedes the most efficient braking performance to keep you and your passengers safe. Equally important to safety are your Mercedes' tires - we recommend tire rotations every six months, and regular monitoring of tire pressure to keep your Mercedes running at its best and most efficient.

Whether you're new to Mercedes ownership or a lifelong Mercedes driver, Carmine's Import Service in Kernersville, North Carolina, is the auto repair shop for all your Mercedes service and repair needs. With our expertise and careful attention, we'll keep your Mercedes performing at the top-tier level you've come to love and expect, for years to come. Stop by the shop or give us a call today to schedule your next Mercedes service appointment.

Tesla Tire Wear and Dirty Oil

Posted by Carmine's

Every Tesla we have encountered is out of alignment. It does not matter if it is new or used. We have checked alignments on over 8 brand new Tesla of all Models and every one of them was not within their wheel alignment specifications or anywhere close to being within a specification to protect a tire from prematurely wearing. What is the point here? If you just purchased a brand new Tesla, it needs a wheel alignment. Period. Just because it tracks straight does NOT mean the wheel alignment is ok. Just because Autopilot does not freak out does not mean the wheel alignment is ok.

The wheel alignment could be out for a number of reasons. On some older model Tesla cars we have seen suspension bushings fail earlier than 30,000 miles! Understand that the weight of a Tesla is a major factor here. A dual motor Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y tips the weight scales at over 4,000 pounds! A Tesla Model S comes close to 5,000 pounds and a Model X is way over 5,000 pounds. To give you perspective on this, a BMW 7 series can weigh as little as 4,300 pounds which puts it ONLY 150 pounds or so heavier than a Model 3 Dual Motor.

What does this mean for your Tesla? You are carrying a lot of weight around from that massive battery pack or structure battery pack. Weight leads to wear on suspension parts. The issue is that a Tesla handles so well and you may not notice these things until it is too late. The other issue is a Tesla service center may not notice it either because they don't have your typical car person or technician working there. They are all working at normal car repair and service centers. While they have the logo on the building and they sell the cars, this does not mean they know what needs to be done. This is not anything new though. Think about the car dealerships through the years. They are feeling the pain now and trying to retain customers from the lack of knowledge they had through the years.

Ok, so it boils down to you being in control and in charge of your investment. You purchased a Tesla so now you need to care for a Tesla. You may have been told your Tesla needs no maintenance because it is an EV and it is just a computer on wheels. Part of that is true. But we have been driving computers on wheels for a while. Tesla's still have brake fluid, antifreeze, differential oil (front and rear on a dual motor), wiper blades, air filters, tires, suspension parts (some are identical to a Mercedes-Benz, literally), headlights, tail lights, window regulators, door locks, and all the other items that fail on a car. The basic car has not changed. All they did was remove your engine and replace it with a motor. Literally. And yes your Tesla has an oil filter. A dirty, metal, not-good-for the environment oil filter. Just like the old days. Hell, a dual motor has two of the darn things and yes they need to be changed. Well, not if you plan to turn it in and buy a new one and let Tesla use your old one as a RoboTaxi in 2030. lol.

If you plan to drive your Tesla, plan to maintain it or let it rot. If you just care about tires, then get the Tesla aligned. We also have camber and toe correction options for when the Tesla does not properly take a wheel alignment. We have the necessary alignment ballasts at the shop to perform the alignment correctly. Always make sure the tires are properly inflated and your tires never get below 4/32nds for best performance and remember when a tire goes below 5/32nds it will never have the heavy rain performance they did when they were brand new.

Preventing Your Porsche from Being Sidelined By Fuel Pump Leaks

Posted by Carmine's

Expert Attention from Carmine's Import Service is All You Need to Stay on the Road

Despite its humble origins, Porsche is now synonymous with high-performance sports luxury. A well-maintained Porsche, driving at top tier level, is hard to beat in terms of overall driving experience. Simply put, your Porsche is a joy to drive. But to keep your Porsche on the road for years to come, routine maintenance with an auto repair shop who is an expert in imports is a must. Trust your Porsche to the expert imports service team at Kernersville, North Carolina's Carmine's Import Service. We know the ins and outs of Porsche maintenance, and what it takes to keep your high-performance vehicle running the way it should.

Your Porsche cannot run without fuel getting to its engine, via the fuel pump, and fuel pump leaks are a particularly pesky Porsche problem, easily headed off with careful attention and regular maintenance with an expert import mechanic. Wear and tear is inevitable, and while regular preventative maintenance and service can do quite a lot to prolong your fuel pump's longevity, eventually, you will need to address this issue before it can cause substantial damage to the rest of your vehicle.

Compromised fuel economy is a tell-tale indicator. Here are a few indications to look out for that your Porsche's fuel pump is leaking: first, if you notice a substantial drop in your vehicle's mileage per tank, it could indicate damage to your fuel pump. Secondly, if you've noticed your Porsche is suddenly performing at a lower level. This may include your vehicle straining when accelerating, a lag in response when pressing the gas pedal, or even jerky movements. Third, and most concerning, if you discover gasoline beneath where your Porsche is parked. This indicator is dually dangerous, both for your car, which is clearly leaking fuel, and for you, your property, and bystanders, as fuel is of course, highly combustible.

Suppose you notice any of the above issues with your Porsche's performance. In that case, it's time to call or stop by Kernersville, North Carolina's Carmine's Import Service for immediate service to your Porsche's fuel pump, as well as a careful and conscientious inspection of all your vehicle's components. Your Porsche is precious - trust it to the import experts at Carmine's.

Coolant Leaks, Why They're Important, and How to Catch One Fast

BMW has long been celebrated as the best in German engineering, and for good reason. For almost a century, BMW has been innovating fast, efficient, sporty luxury vehicles with superior handling and performance, without sacrificing comfort and sophistication. But even the best in German engineering can fall prey, over time, to wear and tear, and your BMW is no exception. The best way to keep your vehicle in prime working order is through regular, preventative maintenance appointments with a BMW auto repair expert, exactly like the team at Carmine's Import Service, located in Kernersville, North Carolina, in the greater Winston-Salem area. But even with regular expert service, issues can arise.

A common issue affecting BMWs is coolant leaks. A high-performance system like what's under the hood of your BMW can run hot, so the cooling system must always be in top working order. If your BMW develops a coolant leak, it can quickly compound into substantial and expensive repair issues. Carmine's Import Service is here to tell you a few easy ways to determine if your BMW has a coolant leak. First and most accessible and noticeable, if you find leaked coolant underneath your car, you definitely have a coolant leak. Additionally, suppose you notice a sweet smell coming from under the hood. In that case, your BMW begins to get poor fuel economy, or your engine is running consistently hot, especially in warm conditions or over trips of longer duration. A coolant leak needs to be addressed immediately by an expert service technician, before the issue compounds into something deeply serious, possibly compromising your BMW's engine itself.

Whether or not you notice any of the above indications of a coolant leak, it's always in the best interest of you and your BMW to keep it on a regular service schedule with an expert mechanic like the team at Carmine's Import Service. Our BMW expertise, coupled with regular service offerings like coolant checks and flushes, can avert serious issues before they even begin. Stop by or give us a call today and get your BMW on our service schedule to keep you experiencing BMW's vaunted "Sheer Driving Pleasure" for years to come.

4 Signs You Need to Schedule Vehicle Maintenance Service

Posted by Carmine's

Maintenance is a standard part of owning any vehicle, but many drivers aren't sure how often to have their vehicle serviced. Far too often, they wait until there are major issues with their vehicle to reach out to a professional. Although we're always here to get the job done, we're also eager to help you recognize the early signs you need vehicle maintenance to avoid costly repairs down the road.

If you experience any of these four signs, please contact us to schedule a service.

  • Warning Lights
  • Dashboard warning lights or a check engine light are one of the most obvious signs you need vehicle maintenance, and they are certainly not something you should ever ignore. These warning lights can help you take preventative action.

Most vehicles will actually display the word "SERVICE" on your dashboard if something is wrong with your vehicle. More advanced models even include service reminders to help you stay up-to-date with oil changes, filter replacements, and more.

If you ever notice a warning light on your dashboard, it's best to contact a professional right away.

  • Dripping Liquid or Noticeable Leaks
  • If you find any liquid dripping from your vehicle or even whole puddles forming beneath it, you need to schedule a service immediately. Whether it's an oil or transmission leak, both can spell serious trouble for your vehicle's engine without immediate attention from a mechanic.

While some leaking is expected, such as condensation from your vehicle's air conditioning system in the summer, colored fluid is one of the greatest signs you need vehicle maintenance.

Dark fluid indicates an oil or transmission fluid leak, so it's best to schedule a service and have your vehicle inspected by a trained mechanic rather than attempting DIY repairs.

  • Vibrations
  • Another one of the most common signs you need vehicle maintenance is noticeable vibrations in your vehicle. These could be intense or subtle; some may happen all the time, while others only occur at low or high speeds.

Some vibrations can indicate an issue with the engine, such as a loose or worn engine mount, while others may signal trouble with your steering and suspension system.

Whatever the case may be, it's best to have a professional address these issues and get to the root cause of the problem.

  • Problems Braking
  • Whenever your brakes feel loose, wobbly, or non-responsive, you should seek immediate service from a professional auto repair shop. Nothing is more important than your safety, and faulty brakes are a major hazard for you and other drivers on the road.

One of the most popular signs you need vehicle maintenance is difficulty breaking, which is most often caused by worn brake pads. Brake pads need to be replaced around every 30,000 miles, but some models may need to have their brake pads replaced more frequently, especially if you drive on rough terrain or handle your vehicle intensely.

Top 5 Reasons for a Check Engine Light

Posted by Carmine's

When your vehicle's internal computer system finds an issue with your engine or any other important part, it warns you by turning on the check engine light. This warning is indicated by the engine symbol on your dashboard lighting up red, orange, amber, or yellow. The cause of an illuminated engine light might be as simple as a loose gas cap or as complex as a damaged engine component. However, ignoring the problem can quickly lead to expensive repairs or inevitable vehicle failure.

Here are five of the most common causes of a check engine light and what you should do in the event that it comes on.

5 Common Culprits of a Check Engine Light

  • Loose Gas Cap
  • Your gas cap helps to maintain the right pressure in your vehicle's fuel delivery system and prevents vapors from escaping the fuel tank. When it is loose or missing, it may trigger a check engine light.

  • Oxygen Sensor Failure
  • If your car's oxygen sensor is malfunctioning, it won't be able to determine how much oxygen is present in the exhaust, which means your vehicle won't be able to deliver the correct amount of gasoline to your engine. If your engine is otherwise healthy, your vehicle may still continue to operate, but with fuel efficiency decreased by 40 percent, all while releasing harmful emissions into the environment.

  • Battery Issues
  • A faulty or incorrectly installed battery can prevent your vehicle from starting and trigger a check engine light. Generally, vehicle batteries need to be replaced every three to five years, but exposure to harsh driving conditions and severe weather can negatively affect their lifespan.

  • Vacuum Hose Leaks
  • Age and exposure to extreme temperatures can cause vacuum hoses to dry out and crack, resulting in leaks. When this happens, the engine warning light may turn on. In addition, if your car's idle speed suddenly rises or stays at an irregularly high RPM, a vacuum hose leak may be to blame.

  • Damaged Spark Plugs
  • A vehicle's ignition system sends electric currents to spark plugs, which in turn send those currents directly to the combustion chamber, lighting the fuel-air mixture responsible for driving the vehicle. When a spark plug fails, it may cause the engine to misfire, reduce gas mileage, cause rough idling, and trigger the check engine light.

What to Do When Your Check Engine Light Turns On

While some check engine light issues can be resolved with simple troubleshooting, several others may be signs of serious engine failure and call for meticulous and in-depth professional repairs. If your gas cap, battery, and fuel levels are fine, but your engine warning light is still on, it's worth consulting with a professional mechanic to avoid the risk of causing further damage to your vehicle and putting yourself in danger.

The Top 5 Auto Repair Services You'll Need in Your Lifetime

Posted by Carmine's

While auto repair varies from vehicle to vehicle, there are certain services that are nearly impossible to do without. On top of just taking your vehicle to the shop whenever you suspect an issue, there are five important auto repair or maintenance services you will need to stay on top of to ensure your vehicle's reliability on the road.

The 5 Most Necessary Auto Repair Services

In order for your vehicle's engine to operate properly, it's essential that it has an adequate supply of good, clean oil. However, over time, your vehicle's oil can gather dirt and debris that can clog your oil filters and limit the oil's flow to your engine. When this is unresolved, your engine builds up more friction between its moving parts, which could lead to overheating and other engine issues. You should expect to change your vehicle's oil at least every six months or according to your vehicle manufacturer's specifications. As the oil filter can also accumulate debris and become clogged, it goes without saying that it also must be replaced each time you get an oil change.

New Tires

Even if you have new tires with your vehicle, they won't last forever. After a while, tires tend to lose their depth and tread, which can affect several aspects of how your vehicle drives, from its resistance to hydroplaning to how well you can control the vehicle. However, tires can also be affected by several other factors unrelated to regular wear and tear. The top two reasons why tires deteriorate faster than they're supposed to include improper alignment and inconsistent tire air pressure.

Battery Replacement

A vehicle's battery usually needs to be replaced every four to five years or more, depending on the quality of your battery and the type of vehicle you own. Batteries in RVs or motor vehicles are usually built to last between 5 to 7 years, but again, several factors can also affect battery life. Long periods of inactivity or infrequent usage can cause your vehicle's battery life to drain or weaken.

Engine Tune-up

A full engine tune-up requires checking your vehicle's engine for any components that need cleaning, repair, or replacement. These parts may include your vehicle's spark plugs, wires, filters, hoses, and belts, and the auto repair service may also include checking your vehicle for its emission levels. Since your engine is basically one of the primary "organs" of your vehicle, it's important to have it checked regularly to avoid premature vehicle failure.

Inspections and Maintenance

Aside from only getting auto repair when you need it, it's crucial to keep your vehicle in good working order by scheduling regular inspections or maintenance. These services may include any of the four services mentioned above, as well as any necessary fluid top-offs, electrical diagnostics, filter and part replacements, and wheel balancing. When scheduling your vehicle for maintenance, it's imperative that you work with an experienced auto repair technician who can diagnose all of your vehicle's potential issues thoroughly and provide the necessary solutions using the right methods and only high-quality and genuine parts.

Why Choose a Tesla vs. Other EVs?

Posted by Carmine's

Look around at the current car market and you'll quickly notice a trend: nearly every automaker is introducing a new electric car and trying to claim that they alone build the best EVs. This is the case everywhere from Ford to Mercedes-Benz.

Every one of these automakers is after the same competitor: Tesla. No one needs an introduction to the brand, which has dominated the EV sales charts for years now. It's not just the most important player in the electric vehicle market - it's the company that has single-handedly changed countless perspectives toward EVs. Before Tesla, the idea of a mainstream electric car was a pipe dream. Now? It's widely agreed that EVs are the future.

For savvy shoppers ready to ditch gas, Tesla continues to be the best electric car brand. But the reasons to buy one go deeper than this, so check out our thoughts on choosing Tesla below. Our independent Tesla repair shop near High Point has everything you need to know before buying a Tesla in North Carolina.

Tesla Knows EVs Best

If nothing else, Tesla has the history to affirm its position as the EV market leader. Twenty years ago, the mainstream automakers were largely ignoring electric vehicles. At Tesla, though, things were different. Back then, the startup was preparing to unveil the Roadster, its original production EV. Later came the Tesla Model S in 2012 - the breakthrough model that made the electric car a thing of desire rather than one of necessity. On the back of the Model S, Tesla grew successful - and wildly so.

All this illustrates the history, expertise and specialization Tesla has in designing and manufacturing electric cars. No brand comes close to matching what Tesla has done to further interest in EVs among both carmakers and consumers.

The Tesla Supercharging Infrastructure Is Cutting-Edge

Aside from designing cars, Tesla has developed what's arguably the world's best EV charging network. Need proof? Consider the Tesla Supercharger network includes more than 50,000 global Superchargers, making it the largest network of fast-charging EV stations anywhere. In 15 minutes, you can regain up to 200 miles of range - all while allowing you to pay dramatically less than a gas station stop would cost. The success of the Tesla charging network hasn't gone unnoticed. In fact, the industry is in the process of making a Tesla-developed charging plug a standardized solution that all car companies will likely adopt going forward. It's known as the North American Charging Standard and is further proof that Tesla is still at the absolute leading edge of EV development.

A Tesla Is Safe, Fun & Value-Laden

When you buy a Tesla, you're getting a car that has been developed with the latest performance and safety features. All models - including Models S, 3, X and Y - have been awarded top safety ratings. Once behind the wheel, you'll sense how solid and well-reinforced these cars are - and fast, too. Huge available horsepower numbers, launch control systems and supercar-quick acceleration make them highly addictive to drive. Knowing that, it's no wonder that Tesla resale values are so strong.

You Have Independent Tesla Service Options

And perhaps the best part of choosing a Tesla? You can have it fixed at our local auto repair shop. In fact, we proudly specialize in Tesla service in Kernersville, so you can trust us for Model S repairs, Model 3 maintenance, Model Y service and anything else you require.

We know Tesla models inside and out, so if you're a nearby Tesla fan, go ahead and splurge on that new Cybertruck or Model X you've been eyeing - we'll be here for all your Tesla maintenance and repair needs. Contact us today!
