The city of Winston-Salem serves as the county seat of Forsyth County, North Carolina, located in the Piedmont Triad region of the state. Covering a land area of more than 132 square miles, Winston-Salem is home to a population of roughly 242,000 people.
The present-day city was formed by the merging of the two neighboring towns of Winston and Salem in 1913.
