The town of Summerfield is located in Guilford County, North Carolina. It’s largely considered a suburb of Greensboro, while also just a few miles from the Winston-Salem area. Summerfield covers a land area of more than 27 square miles, home to a population of roughly 11,000 people.
Situated just north of Lake Higgins, Summerfield has slowly transformed over the years from a rural farming area into a bedroom community. A notable site in town is Summerfield Rock Gym, a historic gymnasium building built in 1938 as part of a WPA project and recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Summerfield is also known as the residence of early North Carolina governor Alexander Martin. The town today lives by its current motto: “Respectful of the Past; Focused on the Future.”
